During this period, visitors will not be able to enter the chapel or place wreaths inside. However, the ABMC has stated that wreath display may still be possible by prior arrangement with cemetery staff.

For many visitors, the Netherlands American Cemetery is a deeply meaningful place of remembrance. It honors American service members who gave their lives in the fighting in northwest Europe during the Second World War, including those connected to the campaign that followed the Battle of the Bulge. Any temporary closure affecting part of the site is therefore important for researchers, relatives, and those planning commemorative visits.

While the chapel is closed, the cemetery itself remains a place of reflection and remembrance, and visitors are encouraged to check official updates before traveling. Anyone wishing to arrange a wreath display should contact the cemetery staff in advance.

This temporary closure is expected to last through late November 2026.

If you’re planning a visit to Henri-Chapelle American Cemetery and Memorial in Belgium—an especially meaningful stop for anyone tracing the story of the Battle of the Bulge—be aware that renovations to the front entrance are ongoing through November 2026, according to the American Battle Monuments Commission (ABMC). See the official notice here: ABMC – Henri-Chapelle American Cemetery Renovations.

What’s changing for visitors
ABMC’s alert highlights several practical impacts during the renovation period:

No bus parking will be available.
Parking for other vehicles will be limited.
Visitor access will shift to a different entry point: use the entrance at the rear of the north parking lot to reach the cemetery and monument.
Monument entry will be via steps in the cemetery (i.e., access is not through the usual front entrance).

Visit-planning tip
Given the parking constraints, it’s wise to allow extra time and consider traveling in smaller vehicles or carpooling when possible. For general background as you plan your stop, ABMC also maintains the site information page: About Henri-Chapelle American Cemetery.

Hitler hoped to disrupt the Allied armies in the West and by this to gain time to halt the Russian armies in the East. This hope dead in the rocky wooded hills of the Beglium Ardennes. December-44-Museum had been renovated entirely. You start at the first floor, the hall is dimmed, but the displays are lighed just right. There are a lot of items shown but not to much, the displays are chained together with a storyline. The mannequins are not as good as those of Madame Tussauds, but they are quiet good, so not 70ties recycled mannaquins.

On the 1st floor is also a small movie theatre with a half hour movie ot the battle for La Gleize in 1944. Original propaganda footage of the Battle of the Bulge combat. This movie gives you an overview of the Battle of the Bulge and the drive west of Kampfgruppe Peiper, the tenacious defence of the 82nd Airborne and the destuction of the village La Gleize.

Back on on the ground level you find more displays and dioramas and finally you enter the museum shop. This museum shop not only sells the obvious books and souvenirs, but also the real stuff, so the authentic uniforms and various items.
